Since my mind is a bit all over right now and I need to do laundry, I’m just going to do a notebook dump for tonight’s blog post.
-I’m enjoying the little bit I’ve seen of the Olympics. I haven’t watched a whole lot of events, but I have gotten some swimming. That’s actually a pretty fun event to watch on television. The races are quick, the storylines are easy to follow, and records are broken almost every year. Katie Ledecky seems like a genuinely good person and Michael Phelps just won his 20th gold medal. It’s fun to see elite athletes thrive on a bit level.
Most other times the big-time athletes spend too much time in the spotlight and there are so many narrative thrown about around them. The Olympics don’t allow those sorts of things to fester. The people come on your screen, they do their race, and things move forward. It’s quick and fun.
-I went out to dinner with my family tonight for my parents’ 41st wedding anniversary. It was a nice family dinner out. We don’t have those too often. Both my parents are still winning retirement by a large margin. They’re about to head out on a trip to Ireland in a few weeks. And then they’ll be heading out on another trip next winter. Meanwhile, their son will still be working to pay off his student loans.
-I’ve been listening to a lot of Cloud Cult ever since Saturday afternoon. I really enjoyed their concert. Craig Minowa’s lyrics are at another level. Every song feels like it’s a really good story. Their music seems to have a purpose, and that purpose is to bring people together. I haven’t seen too many bands more than once, but I’d love to see those guys again. I saw them once up at St. John’s. I don’t think I appreciated them enough at that time. I bought their album, The Seeker, at the concert. I’m glad I did. I’ve been listening to it almost nonstop for the past few days.
-The Premier League starts again on Saturday. I’m really excited. I’m excited to have purpose to my Saturdays again. I’m excited to listen to Men in Blazers on a weekly basis again. I’m excited to talk smack with my friends and experiences some crazy story lines. However, I don’t think this season will be as crazy as last year’s. It’d be great to see Leiscester make a repeat run, but somehow I don’t think that’s what will happen. A lot of clubs have opened their wallets for some top talent, so I think it will be a much more competitive season.
- I don’t know if I’m ready for summer to be over yet. It went by fast. Maybe because I didn’t really go on vacation or anything. It’s been pretty busy with concerts, soccer, cooking, which is a good thing. I’m kind of worn out from the humidity though. I love fall weather, but not excited about the shorter days.
- My new roommate arrives in a few weeks.
