328. Pizza, Nachos, Burgers, Wings

I went to a happy hour with some coworkers on Thursday night. I brought up one of my standard discussion questions that I like to use to break the ice. (We didn’t really need to break the ice, but I didn’t want to talk about work the whole time.) This was from a podcast I listened to a few weeks ago. If you had to give up one of these foods for the rest of your life, which one would you choose? 1. Pizza 2. Hamburgers 3.Nachos 4. Chicken Wings. This question elicited some passionate responses. I’m going to break down my thought process on these.

Pizza. There is no way I would give up pizza. Unless you're lactose intolerant (as one of our coworkers was), it would be hard to justify giving one of these up. I don’t know if I’d call pizza my favorite food, but it’s up there in my “I need to have some of this” sustenance. We’d always have pizza Fridays at our house. I also love Digiornio pizza. It’s also an extremely easy food to get when you’re going out. It’s usually cheaper, easier to divide, and it’s friggin delicious and goes well with beer. So, for all of those reasons, I couldn’t give up pizza. I”m assuming that a good portion of the country feels the same way I do towards these things.

Nachos. This one was a little bit more difficult to decipher. But I feel like it much like I do about pizza. Nachos are fun to eat, come in a variety of flavors, and they’re one of the best food to eat at a bar. They’re easy to share and people don’t complain too much about if one person eats more than the others. They’re easy to divvy up when need be. They’re also pretty killer to make and eat at home. Homemade nachos are one of the best foods on the planet.

Chicken wings. People may think this is the obvious choice. They are difficult to eat. They are messy. Bad wings will make you feel absolutely disgusting, whereas bad pizza or bad nachos don’t wreck you as much. However, sometimes I just really want wings. I like the variety of flavors. Buffalo sauce is delicious. Bars have easy and affordable deals on them. If I’m ordering something for myself at the bar, there’s a good chance that it’s going to be wings. I don’t know if I am ready to give those up just yet.

Burgers: Which leaves me with burgers. Now, I’m going to put this out there to begin with. Burgers are great. A really good burger can change your day. However, I think it’s the one I can most easily let go. If I’m at a barbeque and there is a variety of things, I’m probably going to go for a brat or a hotdog. If I’m at a restaurant and I’m looking for a protein delivery system that involves two slices of bread, I can easily substitute a good sandwich in there. Sorry, burgers.
